Nikolay Altukhov was born in Almaty, Kazakhstan, where the vast landscapes and vivid natural light of Central Asia first sparked his love of painting. Now based in Mission Viejo, California, he has spent more than fifty years devoted to the canvas — largely self-taught, with formal training that sharpened an instinct already deeply his own.

His work draws from the world around him: the restless energy of the sea, the quiet drama of still life, and the ever-changing light of the Southern California coast. Whether capturing a wave mid-break or the delicate weight of a flower in bloom, Nikolay paints with a realist’s eye and a poet’s patience — each canvas built up slowly, layer by layer, until the light feels alive.

His paintings have been shown at galleries in Laguna Beach, California. For Nikolay, painting is not a pursuit of recognition but a lifelong passion — a practice he intends to carry forward for as long as his hands will hold a brush.
