Description
Porto by Sarah King captures the romantic atmosphere of Portugal through a narrow, winding street framed by weathered architecture and colorful festive flags. Created as part of King’s 2025 series inspired by her trip to Portugal, the piece reflects the character of the city through its aged facades, cobblestone pathway, warm sunlight, and layered architectural details. The distant view draws the eye through the composition, creating a strong sense of depth and movement.
King’s expressive technique combines palette knife, acrylic, modeling material, gold leaf, and Posca on gallery-wrapped canvas. Rich layers and visible textural marks give the surrounding buildings an aged, tactile quality, while subtle gold accents add luminosity across the composition. Against the muted architectural palette, the red, yellow, green, and blue flags introduce playful bursts of color, creating a contrast between the historic setting and the lively spirit of the scene.
Measuring 16 x 20 inches, Porto is a distinctive piece for collectors drawn to architectural art, European travel-inspired imagery, and richly textured contemporary painting. As part of Sarah King’s 2025 Portugal series, the work represents a personal interpretation of the winding roads and romantic architecture that inspired the collection. Nearly all of the other works from this series have sold out, adding to the significance of this remaining piece.
